April 2008 - Milk Paint and Spray Finishing
Spring is here and the weather was wonderful - perhaps that contributed to a very good turnout with several new faces!
Mikeyb48310 came from Roseville with some of his Dad's shop stuff that is listed in the classifieds. (fig1) If anyone is looking to try pen turning you should take a close look at that cute pen lathe. I know he did not take home nearly as much as he brought.
Damon Started off the meeting (fig2) and a number of topics were discussed but quickly turned over the meeting to the two presenters - Jamie and Matt.
Under discussion this month was finishing techniques. Jamie presented a very nice talk on “Milk Paint” and he brought some sample boards and some paint supplies. He mixed a small batch as he spoke and those that wanted to were able to try some out to see how it worked. It was very interesting and I was sent to the meeting with strict orders from LOML to pay close attention here. Jamey made it easy to comply with a great color handout. The same information is posted on the WIKI for those that could not make it.
Matt gave a great presentation on HVLP tools and techniques. (fig3) Application techniques and differences in guns were discussed. The Q&A was follower with a hands on spray demos where those interested could try spraying water through various style guns.
Through all the talks the crowd was attentive and asked a lot of questions. (fig4)
